The Boston Spa Art and Crafts Festival was started in 2009 as one of a number of community events to celebrate the centenary of Boston Spa Village Hall. The success of that first event resulted in the decision to run the Festival as an annual event. A feature of the event is that the artists are present throughout the two days of the Festival. This year will see the sixth annual Boston Spa Art and Crafts Festival. The main aims of the Festival are to celebrate and promote the sale of art and crafts produced by local artists and craftspeople to encourage and support the development of young artists and craftspeople in the area to raise funds for the ongoing programme of improvements to the Boston Spa Village Hall, which is a registered charity.
The first five Festivals have raised over £11,000 for this purpose. Last year the Festival attracted more than 900 visitors over the two days.
The Festival is organised and run by a committee of local volunteers and representatives of the Village Hall management committee. The current committee members are :-
- Dennis Ashton, Chairman
- Jan Bulley
- Marilyn Chaplin
- Fred Davie
- Judith England
- Pat Willard
- Shirley Alderson, Village Hall representative
- Betty Umpleby, Village Hall representative
