About the Village Hall
The Hall is a dominant feature in the centre of the Village with excellent parking facilities at the rear.
The Main Hall has its own stage area capable of hosting major musical and drama events. The complex also includes the Jubilee Room which is used extensively by smaller groups for leisure activities and for meetings. This room is also used as a meeting place for a support group joint venture established by the Alzheimers’s Society and and Wetherby In Support of the Elderly (WISE).
The Main Hall has a full service kitchen attached plus improved toilet facilities and both Halls have tearoom facilities. A further improvement within the Main Hall has been the refurbishment of the Audio Loop coupled with the installation of a versatile P A system. This work was carried out courtesy of a generous grant from the Boston Spa and Tadcaster Round Table.
Separately, the Lounge attached to the Main Hall is now transformed into the WISE Community Café on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
After only just over a year in being, the Café attracts significant numbers of well satisfied customers. Do call in for a coffee, snack or a light lunch between 10.00am and 3.30.pm.
The most significant development in the past year has been the restoration of the original Roof Light in the 'Old Snooker Room' - made possible through the generosity of a local benefactor. This room is now know as the Lantern Room.
This has attracted much favourable comment and has transformed the room, which is carpeted and is especially suited to creative activities, lectures or for private functions. An innovative aspect is that the Roof Light is illuminated with low energy lighting during the hours of darkness and now acts as a welcoming ‘beacon’ as you pass through the Village. New toilet facilities are planned to further enhance the Lantern Room.
Smaller meetings of up to, say, twenty may wish to avail themselves of two further meeting rooms.
The core activities of the complex revolve around the regular weekly groups and functions plus increasing numbers of Children’s Birthday parties.
Groups include Pilates, Yoga, Bodytone, Tai Chi, Zumba, Badminton plus a local Guitar Club. In addition, there are regular weekly dance and drama sessions for children during term times via AMK Dance, Baby Ballet, Jo Jingles and Theatreworks - the latter also produces end of term audience productions - often for charity.
On a monthly basis, the Women’s Institute hold meetings with guest speakers on a wide variety of topics. Contact details for the many groups are available via the Village Hall notice boards
The Main Hall is home to the nationally renowned Jazz in the Spa Saturday evening sessions which take place all year round - www.jazzinthespa.co.uk whilst the Jubilee Room hosts the Free ’n’ Easy Variety Evenings generally on the first Sunday of each month with an ‘Open Mic’ invitation for budding local performers.
